No Forest Officials For Election Duty:

The Supreme Court has ordered the chief secretary of Uttarakhand to Come before it on May 17th. This decision comes because the court is unhappy with how the Uttarakhand government is control the forest fires. Also, the court has directed that no state should use forest officials or forest department vehicles for election duties.

The Supreme Court has asked why central funds were not fully used to control jungle fires. Last year, the Centre gave over Rs9 crore, but only Rs3.14 crore was spent on control forest fires.

The chief secretary must also explain why there are many unfilled jobs in the forest department why there is a lack of firefighting equipment and why forest officials were used for election duties even though the Election Commission said they should not be. The Supreme Court with Justices BR Gavai, SVN Bhatti, and Sandeep Mehta, noted that although many action plans are made, nothing is done to carry them out.
