Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, new schemes are being announced by the government for all sections. In an important step, the Modi government has decided that Rs 12,000 will be sent to the bank accounts of women aged 21 years and above. This decision shows the government’s dedication towards women empowerment. The application process for this scheme has started from 5th February and will continue till 20th February 2024. Mahrati Vandan Yojana aims to benefit married, widowed, abandoned, and divorced women.
Eligible women who are above 21 years of age as on January 1, 2024 can apply for this scheme. The government has decided to start the process of sending money to women’s accounts from March 2024. Rs 1,000 will be sent every month, which will give a total of Rs 12,000 in a year.

About Yojana
‘Mahtari Vandan Yojana’ launched in Chhattisgarh is an important step towards women empowerment, which has been adopted by the BJP government. During the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced to implementation of the scheme as soon as the BJP government was formed, which was also reiterated by Prime Minister Modi.
The major objectives of Mahtari Vandan Yojana include:
- Economic Self-Reliance: The main objective of the scheme is to make women economically self-reliant and empower them.
- Health and Nutrition Improvement: A sustained improvement is aimed at maintaining the health and nutritional status of women and their dependent children.
- The decisive role of women in the family: The scheme seeks to ensure that women play a decisive role in the family and encourage it.
- Elimination of discrimination and inequality: This scheme is excellent for eliminating social discrimination and inequality.
- Increasing awareness among women: Another important aspect of the scheme is to increase awareness among women, thereby empowering them with knowledge and information.
Eligibility Criteria
- On January 1, 2024, a woman must be above 21 years of age to avail the benefits of this scheme. All married women can be beneficiaries of this scheme in Chhattisgarh. Apart from this, widows, divorced, and abandoned women will also be associated with and benefit from this scheme.
- Through this scheme, the Government of Chhattisgarh has covered married women as well as widowed, divorced and abandoned women, ensuring that women from every section of the society can access this scheme. This will help in achieving social harmony and prosperity of women when they are facing economic or social uncertainties.

Following is the list of documents required for Mahtari Vandan Yojana:
- Self-attested passport-size photograph.
- Address proof.
- Ration card.
- Voter ID Card.
- Own and husband’s Aadhar card.
- PAN card of self and husband.
- marriage certificate.
- Death certificate of husband in case of widow.
- Certificate issued by society/gram panchayat in case of abandonment.
- Birth Certificate (Class 10th or 12th Marksheet/Transfer Certificate/PAN Card/Voter ID Card/Driving License).
- Bank account statement.
- Self-declaration/affidavit.
How to Apply
- Applications for ‘Mahatari Vandan Yojana’ have started in Chhattisgarh from 5th February and its printing will continue till 20th February 2024. Women can apply for the benefits of this scheme through the online portal https://www.mahtarivandan.cgstate.gov.in. Additionally, applications can also be made through a mobile application.
- Applicants can also apply through Mahila Anganwadi Centre, Gram Panchayat, and Women and Children Department. For this, they have to use their login ID. The application process will be OTP based and selection of the concerned Anganwadi centre will be required. Ward and village wise list of Anganwadi centres will be available on the portal.
- In urban areas, ‘Ward In charge’ will be appointed, who will be provided with a special login ID. These ward in-charges will be allowed to apply through the login ID of Anganwadi centers, login ID of the project office, and ward in-charges in urban areas. Also, applicants themselves will be able to apply through the portal or application.
- This is an effective process through which local ward in-charges in urban areas are provided a convenient medium to apply under the scheme.
